Weaving Pack Baskets

Course Description: Learn the basics of basket weaving and weave your very own basket backpack, suitable for loading produce at the farmers market, foraging for mushrooms in the forest, packing a picnic, or any pack basket dream you can imagine! This class will run as two sessions. On the first day, students will learn about traditional pack baskets and prepare materials to weave in the morning, spending the afternoon to weave the basket base and uprights (please note: if you choose to add dyed rattan patterns, there will be some basket homework for you to take home and complete this week!). When we meet again the following week for a half day, students will finish their basket with a rim tied with seagrass and rattan, and assemble a natural cotton harness to their basket, ready to swing onto their backs and head for the hills!

Tuition: $150

Materials: $50 materials fee, $60 with naturally dyed harness

Students bring: sack lunch, water bottle, snacks, scissors, a blanket and low stool or pillow to sit on, a spray bottle for hydrating baskets, full size towel to lay your basket on, a 3-5 gallon bucket if you have one. *We have extra tools if there is anything on this list you need.
