Beginning Fine Woodworking

Class Description

We’re so excited to offer this class geared toward new woodworkers who want to build independence and competency in the woodshop! In this class, you’ll use all the major tools in the shop to make a small table or nightstand with extra consideration for your level of woodworking. You will learn how to follow basic woodworking plans while incorporating tips and tricks from experienced teachers with unique skills to share. We’re really excited about this one, friends! Please reach out with any questions or scheduling accommodations. We’ll do our best to accommodate you! This is a complex project and takes a while to complete, so we allow for 9 weeks of class, but we understand that over 2 months you'll likely miss a few Mondays. If you plan to attend 8 of the 9 classes, you should be able to complete your project. You will also have access to the wood shop during our membership hours in the second month of class to complete your project, if needed.

Instructors

Kat Edmonds

Co-Owner and Instructor

Katherine joined Ashley and Nat at Highland Woodshop in early 2022. She was so excited to find two wonderful like minded makers in Corvallis, creating a community shop. She quickly joined the team and started teaching classes and offering mentored time. You can find Katherine either at Highland Woodshop or her home studio making things or thinking about making things. She loves teaching woodworking, and sharing the joy of making a creative idea into a 3D tangible product.

Eliseo Quiroz

Instructor

A Bay Area native, Eliseo Quiroz relocated to Corvallis in 2017 to attend graduate school at OSU. As a Ph.D student, Eliseo taught many undergrads the fundamentals of general and organic chemistry -- teaching skills that directly help him teach and assist in woodworking classes. A love of DIY speaker builds led Eliseo to woodworking and mastering the fundamentals of the skill at Highland Woodshop. He enjoys the community surrounding the woodshop. Once a student of the Intro to Fine Woodworking class, Eliseo has now transitioned into volunteering his time to teach the course.
