The Keegan Beattie Memorial Youth Scholarship was established to honor the life of Keegan Beattie, a Philomath teenager who was taken from the world too soon from Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer. Keegan’s passion was woodworking—he lived on a timber farm and loved building handmade gifts—so he decided his make-a-wish would be to have his own fully equipped woodworking shop. With support from donors and volunteers, Make-A-Wish helped turn that idea into reality by building him a complete personal woodshop with the tools he needed to create again. 

The experience became more than just a wish—it gave Keegan a sense of purpose, joy, and normalcy during his treatment. His shop became a place where he could focus, create, and find peace outside of his medical journey. Keegan’s tools have found a second life at Highland Woodshop.

This scholarship is designed to support young people—from middle school through college age—who share Keegan’s love for working with their hands and building with purpose. The scholarship provides funding for woodworking classes, shop memberships, and essential supplies, helping to remove financial barriers and empower recipients to pursue their interest in the craft. Whether just starting out or continuing to hone their skills, each awardee carries forward Keegan’s spirit of curiosity, patience, and pride in a job well done.
